Workers of a Chinese road construction firm in Nakuru on Monday downed their tools protesting poor working conditions and poor pay.
The workers took to the streets where they blocked the Nakuru – Eldoret road with stones and twigs at the Soilo – Njoro turnoff, causing a major traffic snarl-up on the busy road.
Police later arrived and dispersed the irate protesters before clearing the road.
The protesting construction workers then moved to the company’s offices where they demanded a pay increase.
Police later arrived at the scene and dispersed the crowd of protesters.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, the workers said that their employer had turned a deaf ear to their demands for salary increment from Sh250 to Sh500.
They also claimed the company’s human resource manager has been mistreating them.
