KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 46 Chinese guilds and associations signed a “Malaysian Chinese Belt and Road Declaration” to mobilise support from the local community for the ambitious initiative from China.
In a ceremony at Wisma MCA here, the signing ceremony was witnessed by MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and China’s ambassador to Malaysia HE Dr Huang Huikang.
“The encouraging response from Chinese associations has proven that the local Chinese community value the friendly Malaysia-China ties.
“Through this declaration, we can affirm that the Malaysia-China bilateral cooperation is built on frankness and equality for mutual benefits,” said Liow.
“We insist on the principle of moderation, peace and openness and strongly oppose to any extreme and malicious comments or actions that undermine our bilateral friendship,” he added.
The declaration expressed the signatories’ commitment towards promoting peaceful coexistence and a win-win cooperation in strengthening existing friendly Malaysia-China ties.
It also supported the Belt and Road and wished for the initiative to open up new opportunities for the development and friendly ties of both nations while making great contribution towards regional stability and prosperity.
Meanwhile, the MCA Belt and Road Centre (Mbrace) was also launched at the event.
Mbrace will serve as a platform for consultation, education and information exchange, as well as business matching.
It is aimed at assisting the private sector, especially SMEs, to participate in and benefit from Belt and Road initiative.
