Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that Nepal wants to be a part of China’s One Belt One Road initiative, a flagship foreign policy forwarded by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In a meeting with visiting Chinese Minister of State Administration for Industry and Commerce Zhang Mao on Friday, Dahal said Nepal wants active participation in the initiative to get benefit from the projects to be undertaken in the future, according to the PM’s secretariat.

Nepal had agreed in principle on the Silk Road initiative, which was later renamed as the OBOR but no specific discussion has taken place between the two countries to execute projects under the scheme. An agreement on intellectual property protection was signed between the two sides earlier during the Chinese minister’s visit.

The PM noted that Nepal and China enjoy trouble-free relations, which would be stronger with higher-level visits. Minister Zhang shared with PM Dahal that Chinese companies were getting appropriate working environment in Nepal.
